Mp3-50 Configurator: ‘Atomic’ Clock Setup
(Mp3-50/8 or Mp3-50/40 with RealTime Clock)
The RealTime ‘Atomic’ Clock is an option which is available on the
Mp3-50/8 and Mp3-50/40. This option consist on two parts:
1) A Mp3-50/8 or Mp3-50/40 which has had a Real Time Clock
(RTC) added. A small lithium battery keeps this clock running,
even when the Mp3-50/8 or Mp3-50/40 is powered down for
months. Even without the ‘Atomic’ Clock kick, this RTC is laser
trimmed for an accuracy rated at +5/-10 PPM.
2) A commercially available ‘Atomic’ Clock module. This is a ‘radio
controlled’ clock which receives and locks to the signals broad-
cast from the Naval Observatory atomic clock in Colorado. This
clock is accurate to within a second every billion years. Special
modifications allow this clock to send a synchronizing signal to the
Mp3-50/8 or Mp3-50/40 to keep them in sync. A rechargeable
Ni-Cad battery keeps this clock running during power outages.
A single two conductor cable connects the ‘Atomic’ Clock module to
the Mp3-50/8 or Mp3-50/40. This wire lands on the ‘D’/White input to the
Mp3-50/8 or Mp3-50/40 (the striped lead is the positive, bottom most termi-
