3.3 Finding Media
To be usable in the IPD Xedio plugin, clips must exist in file format, shown with a
icon
(high resolution) or a
icon (low resolution) in the Elements grid, and be stored in a
nearline known by IPDirector and the Xedio media server.
Selecting a branch in the Tree view limits the list of results to the corresponding item
types in the Elements grid: clips, playlists, edits or logs.
The Search Panel provides a Quick text search field to perform a search on a free text
string. It also gives access, from the
button, to Advanced Search area to apply
filters on a specific type of metadata. See section 5 ‘Searching for Media’ on page 255 for
detailed information on how to use those functions.
An applied filter can be saved for later use via the
button. Such a saved filter can then
be applied very easily later on from the same button.
3.4 Creating an Edit
You first need to create a new edit or open an existing edit before you can add media to
the timeline related to a given edit, or add effects on the timeline.
Right-clicking the Edit node of the tree view opens a contextual menu. When you select
New Edit in this menu, a New Edit window is displayed, which allows you to create a new
edit.
You need to enter a name. A description and other metadata can be saved with the edit
definition into the database. You will find detailed information on the fields in the New Edit
window, in the section 6.4.3 ‘Creating an Edit’ on page 52.
When you validate the new edit definition clicking OK, the edit characteristics are
recorded in the database.
When an edit is active (open), its name is highlighted in dark green in the Elements grid
and the timeline buttons are enabled.
Then, you will be able to add media to the edit.
3.5 Creating Sub-Clips from Clips
Sub-clips can be created from clips (on the nearline or in bins), Protect Media clips and
Associated clips (from logsheets).
To mark sub-clips from a clip, it is necessary to view the clip in the Player window on the
Edit tab.
