Chapter 3: Basic Switch Commands
38
ENABLE IP REMOTEASSIGN
Syntax
enable ip remoteassign
Parameters
None.
Description
This command activates the DHCP and BOOTP client software on the
switch. This command is equivalent to “ENABLE BOOTP” on page 36.
The default setting for the DHCP and BOOTP client software is disabled.
Note
When you activate BOOTP/DHCP, the switch immediately begins to
query the network for a BOOTP or DHCP server. The switch
continues to query the network for its IP configuration until it
receives a response.
Any static IP address, subnet mask, or gateway address assigned to
the switch is deleted from the System Configuration menu and
replaced with the value the switch receives from the BOOTP or
DHCP server. If you later disable BOOTP and DHCP, these values
are returned to their default settings.
To disable DHCP and BOOTP, refer to “DISABLE DHCPBOOTP” on
page 33 or “DISABLE IP REMOTEASSIGN” on page 34.
Note
You cannot manually assign an IP address or subnet mask to a
switch once the DHCP and BOOTP client software has been
activated.
Example
The following command activates the DHCP and BOOTP client software
on the switch:
enable ip remoteassign
