Receiving Fax Messages When There Is a Problem (Type I Only)
Over view
If the printer is jammed or out of supplies, you will still be able to receive fax
messages; any messages coming in will be stored in the machine’s memory. This
is called Substitute Reception.
If the "Receive File" indicator is lit, a message has been stored in the memory
using the Substitute Reception feature.
Check the following:
❐ The paper roll may be used up. If so, replace the paper : see page 93
❐ The printer paper may have jammed. If so, remove the jam: see page 95
❐ The cover is not closed properly. If so, close the cover.
The messages received into memory will be printed and erased once the machine
has returned to normal operation after paper cycling.
Switching Substitute Reception On or Off
There are two conditions under which you may wish to disable this feature.
❐ If you do not like keeping received fax messages in memory: After your
machine has received a fax message to memory, it sends an OK signal to the
other end. However, if something happens to your machine and you lose the
fax message before you have a chance to read it, the sender will not be
informed. Therefore, you may not wish to use the Substitute Reception feature.
❐ If you do not wish to have your memory full of mail from unknown senders: If
you have not enabled the Authorized Reception feature, you can receive fax
messages from anybody. However, you can see who they are from because
their Identification (the TTI) is printed at the top of each page. If the other party
has not programmed its identification (perhaps in an attempt to hide their
identity), you may not wish to receive their messages into memory because
they would take up valuable memory space.
