11.3 Maintenance Domains

Maintenance Domains (MDs) are applicable to 802.1ag procedures. They are the parts of the
network for which faults in connectivity can be managed. The boundary of a Maintenance
Domain is defined by a set of Domain Service Access Points (DoSAPs), each of which can
become a point of connectivity to a service instance. Up to eight MDs can be configured in a
9145E NID. You can display, create, delete, and modify Maintenance Domains.

11.3.1 Display Maintenance Domains

To display a list of existing Maintenance Domains, on the SOAM Configuration screen (Figure 11-
6), type 2 and press . The Maintenance Domain List screen (Figure 11-9) opens.

11.3.2 Create a Maintenance Domain

1. On the Maintenance Domain List screen (Figure 11-89), type A and press . The

Create a New Maintenance Domain screen (Figure 11-10) opens. The first field, MD ID, is
highlighted.

2. In the MD ID field, type a number between 1 and 65535 and press . The Level

field is highlighted.

3. In the Level field, type a number between 0 and 7. Higher numbers correspond to higher

Maintenance Domains, those with the greatest physical reach; for example, the highest
level corresponds to customers' CFM packets. Lower numbers correspond to lower Main-
tenance Domains, those with more limited physical reach; for example, MDs at level 0
usually cover single physical links. Press . The Name Field is highlighted
