Firmware Update
The Site Analyzer uses flash-programmable ROM to store its operating program. To
update the instrument, SA Updater software must be installed on the PC. The SA
Updater software is available on the Bird web site.
Note: The firmware update process will restore default system set-
tings. Setups and traces stored internally on the SA-XT will not be
erased, but as a precaution save your traces and setups to a PC
before updating the SA-XT firmware.
1. Turn the SA-XT off.
2. Attach the AC external power supply.
3. Connect the SA-XT to a PC via type A/B USB cable.
4. Hold down the power button for 6 seconds or more.
Note: The SA-XT will enumerate as a Mass Storage Device. It will
appear as a drive in Windows explorer with a drive label “SA-XT
Update”. The SA-XT LCD display will indicate that it is in firmware
update mode.
5. Go to the PC.
6. Copy the firmware image file to the SA-XT drive.
7. Disconnect the SA-XT from the PC.
Note: The SA-XT will now apply the firmware update.
8. Turn the SA-XT on.
Note: The SA-XT should power off automatically after the update
has been applied. If this does not happen, disconnect the external
power supply.
