To change the number of colors used by an image, follow these steps:

1

Choose Number of Colors from the Image menu.

The Number of Colors dialog box appears.

If you click anywhere in an image while this dialog box is open, the part of
the image you click appears in the Before and After boxes.

2

Select the number of colors you want the image to use.

IMPORTANT

You can’t increase the actual number of colors used by an image,

but you can increase the setting for this number in the Number of Colors
dialog box. This can be useful when you’re converting image files between
different formats. Note that increasing the number of colors always increases
the image’s size on disk, even though the actual number of colors used by each
pixel doesn’t change.
