Scripting with PhotoFlash
If you’re familiar with AppleScript, these may be the only instructions
you need. If you’re not familiar with AppleScript, you should also read
the rest of this chapter.
If several scripting languages are installed in your system, a pop-up
menu appears in the Script palette that lets you choose among them.
Recording and saving scripts
To record a script, click the Record button, perform the actions you
want to record, and click the Stop button. PhotoFlash prompts you to
save the script. Save it in the Scripts folder (in the PhotoFlash folder) or
a folder within the Scripts folder if you want its name to appear in the
Script palette and Script menu.
Running scripts and application programs
To run a script, do any of the following:
m Choose the name of the script from the Script menu.
m Double-click the name of the script in the Script palette.
m Select the script’s name in the Script palette and then click Run.
m Drag catalog thumbnails over the script’s name and release the
mouse button to run the script on those images.
You can use the same techniques to launch programs. If a program is
capable of opening an image and you drag and drop the image’s
thumbnail over the program’s name in the Script palette, the program
opens the image.
Editing and writing scripts
To edit a script, select its name in the Script Palette and click the Edit
button. PhotoFlash opens the script in the Script Editor, a program that
comes with AppleScript. You can also use the Script Editor to write
new scripts.
For more information about AppleScript, see the AppleScript Language
Guide and the AppleScript Scripting Additions Guide (Addison-Wesley).
