To examine or change any of the PhotoFlash preferences, choose Preferences
from the Edit menu. The Preferences dialog box appears.

Virtual memory preferences

PhotoFlash uses a technique called

virtual memory

to simulate RAM. This

allows it to work with files that are larger than the amount of RAM available
in your computer.

IMPORTANT

PhotoFlash’s use of virtual memory is completely independent

from System 7’s use of virtual memory as shown in the Memory control
panel. For best results with all Macintosh computers other than Power
Macintosh computers, turn virtual memory off in the Memory control panel
when PhotoFlash is using its own virtual memory.

By default, PhotoFlash chooses the fastest hard disk drive connected to your
Macintosh to use for virtual memory. It also ignores drives that employ
removable media, such as hard disk cartridges, DAT (digital audio tape), or
magneto-optical discs. You may use removable drives for virtual memory if
you need more free space for large images, but you won’t be able to remove
the cartridges while PhotoFlash is using them.
