SuSe and RedHat
Add the following line to the end of the file /etc/inittab :
xx:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty ttyS0
RedHat
Insert the following kernel boot parameter in the file /etc/grub.conf :
console=ttyS0, console=tty0
SuSE
Insert the following kernel boot parameter in the file /boot/grub/menu.lst :
console=ttyS0, console=tty0
