Using the Handheld

Integrated: Scanner is built into the handheld device. Scanning is gen-
erally activated by a button on the handheld device.

Add-on: Scanner is a third party device that connects to the device via
an expansion slot. Scanning is generally activated by a floating “scan
trigger” icon that appears on the handheld device screen.
The action of scanning a package is described for each device category in
the sections that follow.
Scanning with
an Integrated
Scanner
If you are using a handheld device with an integrated scanner, the scanning
feature is activated by a button on the device. When you are ready to scan a
package in Package Track, point the scanner and press the button on the
handheld device to scan the package.
Scanning with
an Add-on
Scanner
If you are using a handheld device with an add-on scanner, the scanning
feature is activated by a floating “scan trigger” icon that resides on the
handheld screen. When you install the batch portable application for a
handheld device with an add-on scanner (such as Socket Scan), the “scan
trigger” icon will automatically appear on your handheld screen:
You are able to move the “scan trigger” icon anywhere on the screen.
When you are ready to scan a package in Package Track: tap the “scan
trigger” icon: the scanner activates, and you are able to scan the package.
Note: Tip: Try pressing the “scan trigger” icon with your thumb or finger
for easier scanner activation.
