FAQ
1. Studio One can’t find Notion on the same computer (or vice versa)
Check you are running Studio One 3.3 Artist/Professional or later, and Notion 6 or later
In Studio One Preferences>General>Network, ensure ‘Allow remote control apps to discover this DAW’ is checked
In Notion Preferences>General, ensure ‘Allow Network Discovery’ is checked
2. Studio One can’t find Notion on the same network (or vice versa)
Run through checklist as per question 1 above .
Ensure Studio One and Notion are both on the same network
Ensure Studio One and Notion are in your firewall exclusions
Mac: System Preferences>Security&Privacy>Firewall
Win: Start>Control Panel>Windows Firewall
Plus check any 3rd party firewall / antivirus software are not blocking connection
Check your router is not blocking the connection
3. Now I have both applications open, it sounds like Studio One is at a different pitch?
Make sure you have Notion set at the same sample rate of your open project in Studio One (Notion can be set to 44 .1 or
48kHz) - see chapter 15.6
4. Why are my chords not at the beginning of each measure when I’ve imported?
Your chords may need to be quantised, or snapped exactly to the beginning of a measure in Studio One before
transferring . (If it’s just a couple and for print only, then you can always drag the chord symbols in Notion)
5. What is that??
You may well have played freely into Studio One not thinking you would ever end up notating the result, and are now
asking Notion to intepret your blistering performance . Notation is a graphical representation of an interpretive art and
not an exact science, but you could try the following for better results:
Play to click when recording in Studio One
Quantise and clean up as much as is possible in the Editor
Try using Melodyne’s beat detection to create a tempo track for your performance
Try turning Tuplets off, in Notion Preferences>MIDI Import>Tuplets, before receiving data from Studio One
Hint - turn on Sequencer Overlay (hit the tab key) to see the exact MIDI data underneath the notation
6. What are all these metronome marks in my score?
If Studio One had a variable tempo track, then on import into Notion you will see a lot of metronome changes . Notion
automatically abbreviates any minor/frequent changes - you can then hide these leaving any major changes visible . See
chapter 11.34 for more information
7. I sent data to Notion from Studio One, and now playback in Notion won’t work
Check in Notion Preferences>General and see if ‘Enable ReWire’ is checked, or see if this blue icon is displayed near the
transport:
This indicates that Notion is running as a secondary ReWire device to Studio One and is trying to send its audio to Studio
One - you won’t hear it or see the playback cursor move until a ReWire channel for Notion is created in Studio One . A
ReWire session is automatically created between any two supporting apps when they are opened one after the other . To
avoid this, either uncheck the Enable ReWire option in Notion Preferences (and restart Notion), or open Notion before
Studio One .
