Error 21 – Ohmic tip sense
Nozzle Contact Sense input does not turn ON during initial height sense. The ArcGlide uses stall force to sense the
workpiece.
Is the nozzle touching the workpiece?
Yes
No
Examine the workpiece
for an oil or plastic
coating, or too much
rust or dirt.
Yes
Is something on the
workpiece
preventing nozzle
contact sense?
Is the Stall Force set
too low?
Yes
Verify that the settings
that affect the motor
and lifter are correct
(gains for speed and
position, encoder
counts, slide length,
current limit, and stall
force).
Perform an IHS test. If
the torch is not reaching
the workpiece. Increase
the Stall Force setting
by 1. Repeat the IHS
test after each setting
change. If the problem
continues, contact
Hypertherm Technical
Service.

machine slats for
damage or slag
build-up.

Does the workpiece
have an electrical
connection to the
cutting machine?
Is a mechanical bind
preventing the torch
from reaching the
workpiece?
Yes
Monitor the lifter for
smooth motion.
Examine the lifter
motion for obstructions.
