2.5.2 Power Connections
Power connections to the 880 Panel Mount are shown below.
• A three pin plug (PN 152334), is used to connect AC power to the power supply board.
• A three pin plug (PN 15888), is used to connect DC power to the power supply board.
Attach the wires per the diagram shown below.

2.5.3 Serial Communications – Port 1 (COM)
Connector J3 (see Figure 2-10) provides connections for the RS-232 or the two-wire RS-485 serial
communications. Table 2-3 shows the pin assignments.

Note
For RS-232, all four switches on SW3 (see Figure 2-12) must be in the OFF position.
For RS-485, all four switches on SW3 must be in the ON position.
2.5.4 USB Device Communications – Port 2 (USBCOM)
The USB Device Port (J4 micro USB connector, see Figure 2-10) is intended to be connected only to a PC. It will
appear as a Virtual Comm Port and be assigned a “COMx” designation. Applications will communicate through
the port like a standard RS-232 communications port.
Before the USB Device Port can be used, drivers must be installed on the PC. With the PC and indicator powered
on, connect a USB cable from the PC to the micro USB connector (J4) on the 880. The PC will recognize that a
device has been connected, and will attempt to install the drivers needed to make it work. The Drivers are included
on the CD that was supplied with the indicator. The Drivers can also be downloaded from the Rice Lake website.
Note
If using Windows 7 or later, and the PC is connected to the Internet, the operating system may be able to install
the drivers without any interaction.
When the individual drivers are installed, a new COM Port designation is assigned for each physical USB port the
880 is connected to on the PC.
