Removing the I/O Module

CAUTION: Do not attempt to open any of the three modules while power is
applied to the system. They are not hot-pluggable. Immediate system shutdown
and loss of data will occur.

NOTE: Use the procedure in the preceding section, “Accessing the I/O Module,” to install
or replace hot-plug fans or hot-plug PCI boards.

To replace or service non-hot-plug components or problems in the I/O module,
remove the module from the chassis:

1. If the computer is on, place the computer in Standby mode and

disconnect the power cord or cords. See Chapter 7, “Server Power.”

2. If replacing an item, it may be necessary to remove all of the cables

connected to the I/O expansion boards.

3. Loosen the cable management arm with the thumbscrew attached to the

cable management arm bracket (as shown in Figure 3-3)

, and lift the

cable management arm to disconnect it

. Rotate the arm out of the

way. The cable management arm is not shown in the figure for clarity.

4. Push in on the sides of the cam levers on the I/O module

and rotate

the top of the levers downward

, as shown in Figure 3-4.

5. Pull the I/O Module out of the chassis until it reaches the module stop

latch
