SCSI Hard Drive Installation Guidelines
The following guidelines should be noted when adding SCSI hard drives:
■
A maximum of four 1-inch, Ultra2 or Ultra3 SCSI drives may be added
in the Media module.
■
If only one SCSI hard drive is used, it should be installed in the lowest
numbered bay. If several drives are installed, the system boot drive
should be installed in the lowest numbered bay.
■
In order to maintain proper system cooling, blanking panels should be
installed in unused drive bays.
■
When combining Ultra2 and Ultra3 hard drives, all of the drives will run
at the slower speed.
■
The embedded SCSI controller only supports Ultra2 speeds. To obtain
Ultra3 speeds, a secondary controller must be installed
CAUTION: If a hard drive is removed, a blanking panel must be added for static
immunity and airflow integrity.
The server has one embedded Integrated Smart Array Controller (Ultra2
support). The integrated controller is hardwired through an array-enabler board
to the four SCSI hard drive bays and the external VHDCI SCSI connector that
can be used for a tape backup unit.
