Rate Limiting
Overview
The rate limiting feature on the Brocade Virtual ADX version 3.1 implements rate limiting on ingress
traffic to the data ports of the Virtual ADX platform. The feature supports three types of rate
limiting:
•
port-level rate limiting - allows users to perform rate limiting on ingress traffic on a specified
data port of the Brocade Virtual ADX.
•
global rate limiting - allows users to perform rate limiting on ingress traffic across all data ports
of the Brocade Virtual ADX.
•
VLAN rate limiting - allows users to perform rate limiting on ingress traffic to a specific VLAN.
The rate limiting feature can be used to rate limit ingress packets in general. Specific applications
include enforcing of licensing requirements on throughput and CPU protection.
Feature Support
•
Traffic on management interface is not subject to rate limiting.
•
Control packets are excluded from rate limiting.
•
Rate limiting is applied on ingress traffic only and not selectively on any traffic type.
•
Global rate limiting can be enabled or disabled through licensing module only and is not user
configurable.
•
Global rate limiting is applied to ingress traffic on all Virtual ADX physical ports (except for the
management port).
•
Port-level rate limiting is applied to ingress traffic on the specified port only (except for the
management port).
•
Port-level rate limiting is user configurable on the Virtual ADX physical ports.
•
Packets exceeding configured traffic rate limit will be dropped.
•
When configured, global, VLAN and port-level rate limiting will be applicable to ingress traffic.
NOTE
Rate limiting is also applicable to IPv6 ingress traffic.
