Subjects for Which Exposure Bias Works
+ (positive) compensation
Printed materials comprising black text on a white page
Backlit subjects
Very bright scenes such as snowfields and very reflective subjects
Shots where most of the image consists of sky
– (negative) compensation
People illuminated by a spotlight, particularly when the background
is dark
Printed materials comprising white text on a dark or black page
Subjects with very low reflectivity, such as dark foliage or evergreen
trees (pines, etc.).
Using the Backlight Compensation Function
In shots where a lot of light enters the camera, such as shots taken facing
towards the light source, the subject may appear too dark. Backlight
compensation is a type of brightness adjustment (exposure bias) that
adjusts the exposure so that the subject appears brighter in the shot.
1. Press the button.
When backlight compensation is turned on, the backlight compensation
icon appears on the screen.
When backlight compensation is turned on, press the button to turn it
off.

You can also set the brightness (exposure bias) while shooting video.
Setting the camera to auto mode sets the exposure bias to “0”.

You can also use backlight compensation while shooting a video.
Pressing the button when exposure bias is set enables both
exposure bias and backlight compensation.
Setting the camera to auto mode turns backlight compensation off.
