2-5-2 Extending the Modify Mode Timeout Period
Whenever you change from View mode to Modify mode, the progress bar that shows the Modify mode timeout
period is displayed on the XP Remote Web Console main pane (see Figure 3-1). The progress bar shows the
remaining time period in which the Modify mode is available. The remaining time period for the Modify mode is
also numerically displayed on the progress bar. The default of the Modify mode timeout period is 30 minutes.
If a user is in Modify mode but does not access the SVP, the progress bar decreases. If the time passes without
accessing the SVP and reaches the specified Modify mode timeout period, Modify mode is released.
The Reset button is displayed on the right of the progress bar. Click Reset button to extend the Modify mode time
period. For example, if the Modify mode timeout period is set as 30 minutes (default), the Modify mode time
period is extended for an additional 30 minutes when you click Reset.
A storage administrator with superuser authority can change the Modify mode timeout period or disable the
timeout parameter altogether by using the RMI™ time-out period for Modify parameter on the Set Environment
pane. For more information, see section 3-4 If you disable this parameter, the Modify mode progress bar is not
displayed.
2-6 License Keys
A license key is a text string that functions as a password. When you enter the license key for an option into XP
Remote Web Console, that option is unlocked. Because each license key is generated with a subsystem serial
number and option ID input, each subsystem requires a unique license key code. License key codes for each
option (including the Java™ applet) and subsystem are provided at the time of purchase (see Figure 2-21).

There are three types of license keys:
• A permanent License Key is issued when the software license is purchased. It is used to enable the product
indefinitely.
• An emergency License Key is used in situations where the temporary key is set to expire in the near future,
and the user cannot get the permanent key in time because of special circumstances (for example, a
licensed server has crashed or problems exist with the communication infrastructure). An emergency key
may also be used when a user who does not intend to purchase the option needs to undo a configuration
change that was made during the lifetime of the temporary license key. An emergency key is effective for
30 days.
If you forcibly install an emergency key to an option that already has the permanent key, the license for
that option will expire in 30 days.
