Preparing to use probes
The accuracy and repeatability of measurements depend on the mechanical condition of the system, the
condition of the part, system optics, lighting and calibration.
System and part condition
The measuring system is presumed to be undamaged and well maintained, which implies a recent calibra-
tion, and a clean stage with acceptably small amounts of mechanical backlash. The part is also presumed
to be clean and properly mounted.
Selecting a magnification
Touch the Magnification button
to display a drop-down list of
magnifications, then touch the
desired magnification to select it.
Lighting
Adjust part illumination to achieve the best contrast between light and dark areas and to optimize the view
of the part. This is important for all probes, but especially important for edge detection probes.
NOTE
The edge detector reference and sensor light levels can be checked using the Install
function on the Magnification’s setup screen. Refer to Chapter 10: Setup for details.
