Interconnecting Clustered FEP-4600 Platforms
If your installation includes multiple FEP-4600 platforms clustered together to function
as a single unit, you must provide a pathway for them to communicate with each other.
This is accomplished by providing an Ethernet connection for them to talk over. It is
strongly suggested that the Ethernet connection used to interconnect the platforms be
over dedicated connections (not the corporate LAN).
To communicate together, each unit must have an IP address assigned that is unique. It is
not necessary to configure a default gateway for the interconnection if the LAN is
dedicated unless it must cross to a different subnet. Reference the ‘Editing the
FEP4600.INI File’ section below for assigning IP addresses initially for each of these
units.
If you only have two FEP-4600 platforms, you can run a crossover cable between the two
units. Otherwise, you will need a hub or switch to connect each of the FEP-4600
platforms into to provide the intra-cluster communication.
It is recommended to use the fastest connection available to interconnect the platforms.
The interface will run at 1 Gbps, 100 Mbps, and 10 Mbps. 1 Gbps connections may not
be practical when interconnecting platforms at physically different locations. Refer to the
Ethernet cabling specs for recommended cabling types.
