Chapter 10. PU4 SNI Over IP

When configuring a PU4/SNI connection between the FEP-4600 and either another FEP-
4600 or a SGA-4601, you can use the Remote IP option in configuration. This option is
not available when connecting the FEP-4600 to a remote 3745.

The SNI over IP connection establishes a Null SNI connection between the two networks.
To the local network, the FEP-4600 appears as a channel-to-channel connection the same
as any FEP-4600 PU4/SNI connection. Between the two platforms the SNA traffic is
network information is translated to address a null network, similar to the way a
connection to a remote 3745 is created, however in this case the traffic is encapsulated
into IP and is encrypted. The FEP-4600 on the other end of the connection removes the
encryption and removes the IP datagram, and processes the null network SNA traffic.

The IP traffic generated by the FEP-4600 can be routed through any IP network including
the Internet. Security is enhanced by configuring a unique TCP port number on each end
of the network and using a mutually agreed upon null network name.

To configure the SNI over IP option, select [Connectivity] from the main configuration
menu as shown below.

Next select the [Remote IP] button from the resulting menu.
