A: A child resTraim system is any da vice designed for
use In a motor vehicJe to restrain, sea!, er position
children. A builMn child restraint system is a
pernnaneni part of the motor vehicle. Ar> add-on

For rnany years, add-on child restraints have used
fhe adull bait sysSom in tlie vehk:le. To help
reduce the chance of injury, Ihe child also has to be
sacurad within the restraint. The vehicle''s hell
system secures the add-on child restrain! in the
vehicle, and the add-on child resiraini’s harness
system holds ihe child in place within the nestnaini.
One system, the three-point ha mass, has straps
1hat oome down over each cl the infanl^s shoulders
and buckle together at Iha croich. The Tive-poinl
harness system has )wo shoulder straps, two
hip straps and a crotch strap, A shield may take the
place cl hip siraps. A T-shaped shield lias
shoulder straps lhat are attached to a flat pad which
rests low against the child’s body. A sbelf- or
