Torque Lock
If
you
are
parking on a
hhf
and
you don't
shift
your
Transmission
into PARK (P)
properly,
the
weight
of lhe
vahrcle may put
too
much torce
on
the parking pawl
in I
he
transmission.
You
may find iL difficult
to
pull
the
shift lever out
of PARK (P). This
is called "torque
lock."
To
prevent torque lock,
set the
parliing brake and
[hen

PARK (P)

When you are ready to drive, move ihe shift lever out of
PARK (P) IjafofQ you release the paiking brake.
If
torque lock does occur,
you may

Shifting Out of Park (P)
Your vehicle has an automatic transmission shift lock
ccjntroJ system. You have to luHy apply your regular
brakes befora you can shift from PARK (P) when the
ignition IS in RUM. See Auiomatip fransm/ssiorr
OperatiQn on page 2-24
If you cannot shift out ot PARK (P), ease pressure on
the shift lever and push the shift lever all the way up info
PARK (P) as you maintain brake application. Then,
move the shitt lever Into the gear yog want.
If you ever hold the brake pedal down but still can't shift
out of PARK i[P), try this;
1. Turn Ihe key to OFF
2. Apply and hold the brake until (he end ot Step 4.
a. Shift to MEUTRAUM).
4. Start the vehicle and then shift to the drive gear
you want.
5, Have (he sysfem fixed as soon as you can.
