Snatv can trap exhaust gsses under your
vehicle. Thi£ can cause deadly CO {carbon
monoxide) gas to get inside. CO could
overcome you and kill you. You can't see It or
smell it, so you might not know it Is In your
vehicle. Clear away snow from around the
base of your yehlclen especially any that Is
btoching your exhaust pipe. And check around
again from time to lime lo be sure snow
doesn't collect there.
Open a window Just a little on Ibe side of the
vehicle that's away from the wind. This will
heip keep CO out.
Run your engine only a& long as you musl. This saves
lufli. When

run ihe engine, make ll go a little
faster lhan jusi idle. That is, push ihe acceierator
slightly. This usas less lual lor Ihe heat that you get and
it keeps the batlerv (or batteries) charged You wilt
need a well-charged battery (or batteries) I

restart Ihe
vehicle, and possibly for signaling latet on with your
headiannps. Let the bealer run for a while.
Then, shut Ihe engine ntf and close the wrndûw almosl
ail the way to preserve the heat. Start the engine
again and repeat this only when you tqel really
uncomfortable Irom the cold. But do il as little as
possible. Preserve the fuel as Jong as you can. To help
keep warm, you can get out of Ihe vehicle and do
some fairly vigorous exercises every half hour or so until
help comes.
