Jump Starting

II your battery has ru'n down, you may want to u?e
anolher vehicle and some |umper cables to start your
vehicle. Be sure to follow I ho steps bekjw to do ¡1 safely.

Batteries can hurt you. They can be bangorous
because:

* They contain actd that can burri you.
* They contain gas that can explode or

ignite.

* They contain enough efectrirlty to

burn you.

if you don't follow these steps exactly, some

or all ot these things can hurl you.

Notice:

Ignoring these steps could result in costly

damage to your vehicle that wouldn't be covered
by your warranty.

Trying to start your vehicle by pushing or pulling it
won't work, and it could damage your vehicle.

1. Check the olhar vehicle It must have a 12-volt

battery with a negathve ground syslem.

Notice:

If

the other system isn't a 12'VOlt system

with a negative ground^

both

vehicles can bo

damaged.

Gel ihe vehicles close enough so Ihs }umper cables
can reach, but be sure ihe vehicles aren’l tcuchhng

each other. If Ihey are, it could cause a ground
connqction you don’t wanl. You wouldn't be able to
start your vehicle, and Ihe bad grounding could
damage the olactrical syslenas.

To avoid the possibility ol the vehictes rolling, set

the parking brake firmly on holti vehicles involved in

tho lump start procedure. Put an aulomalic
transmission in PARK (P) or a manga] Iransmisgion
In NEUTRAL betorg sefting The parkir>g brake.

Notice:

If

you

leave

your radio on. it could

be

badly

damaged.

The

repairs wouldn’t

be

off

vehicles Unplug

tendioal and a ramota negative {-} jump starting
temiinai. You should always use these nempfe
terminals instead of the terminals on the baltery
