Brake Fluid
Your tirake rmasler cylinder rBsorvoir is filled wilh DDT-3
brake fluid. See
Engine Cofnpailmeni Overview on
pege 5-12
for Hie locatien of the reservoir.
There are only iea&nns why the brake fluid level in
the reservoir might go down. The first is that the
brake nuid goes down to an acceptable teveP during
normal brake lining wear. When rtew linings are pot in,
the fluid level goes back up. The other reasori i&
that fluid is leaking out ol the brake systern If it is, you
should have your brake system fitterff since a leak
means thaï sooner
or
later your brakes won't work well,
or won’t work at afl.
So, It isn't a good idea to "top off" your brake lluid.
Adding brake fluid won't correct a leak. If you add fluid
when your linings are worn, then you'll have tiM
much ffuid when you get new brake finings. You shouJd
add {or remove) brake fluid, as necessary, only when
work is done on the brake hydraulic system.
A
CAUTION:
If you have too much brake fluid, it can spill on
the engine. The fluid will burn if the engine is
hot enough,. You
or
others could be burned,
and your vehicle could be damaged. Add brake
fluid only when work is done ori the brake
hydraulic system. See ^'Checking Brake Fluid''
in this section.
Refer lo the Maintenance Schedule lo determine when
to check your brake fluid. See
Pari C: Periodic
M sinienar]cc inspections on page 6-15.
