MMR Modified Modified Read: A slightly improved version of MR designed for use with
lowlinenoise digital telephony connections.
MR Modified Read: An improved version of MH fax image compression.
RTP Realtime Transfer Protocol: Protocol for transmitting the audio portion of a VoIP call over IP
networks. Codecs used are typically G.711 μlaw or G.729.
SIP Session Initiation Protocol: Standard VoIP protocol for placing and receiving calls. SIP controls
call setup and takedown as well as negotiating the audio (RTP) channel or fax (T.38) channel.
T.30: The most fundamental ITUT standard for fax.
T.38: The ITUT standard for fax over IP networks.
T.4: ITUT “Group 3” fax compression standard using the MH algorithm.
T.6: ITUT “Group 4” fax compression standard using the MMR algorithm.
