28023 Special Information Tone detected: A SIT has been received. This can include “number out
of service” and other PSTN errors beyond the TDM network (where Q.850 cause codes would be used
instead). Error type: NO_ANSWER.
28024 Busy tone detected: The destination number is busy at a point beyond the TDM network.
Error type: BUSY.
28025 Talking detected with no fax: The call connected, but either there was no reinvite for T.38,
or the RTP stream analysis indicated that there was a voice on the line. This can be caused by a human
or answering machine answering the call. Also some service providers play a recording for out­of­service
numbers without using a SIT tone. Listen to the RTP stream, or the WAV file in the Queue directory to
determine what audio is being received. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
28026 Ring back detected with no answer: Call was not answered in the configured time period.
The timer is 45 seconds. Error type: NO_ANSWER.
28027 Fast busy tone detected: The number is not in service or the call has been rejected at a point
beyond the TDM network. A destination number on a PRI, T1 or DID trunk when the trunk is down can
result in a fast busy. Error type: BUSY.
4.1.7 28160–28240: SIP 300 Messages
These are error codes returned by the media gateway or fax service. The second number listed is
the equivalent standard SIP code.
28160 300 Multiple choices. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
28161 301 Moved permanently. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
28162 302 Moved temporarily. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
28163 303 Use proxy. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
28164 304 Alternative service. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
4.1.8 28439: SIP 400 Messages
These are error codes returned by the media gateway or fax service. The second number listed is
the equivalent standard SIP code. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
28416 400 Bad request. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
28417 401 Unauthorized. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
28418 402 Payment required. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
28419 403 Forbidden. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
28420 404 Not found: The gateway rejected the initial INVITE with a generic “404 Not found,” and
did not include an additional Q.850 cause code. This could be because no SIP route could be found for
the destination phone number. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
28421 405 Method not allowed. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
28422 406 Not acceptable. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
28423 407 Proxy authentication required: A username and password are required to
communicate with the gateway. Run Re­Detect Fax Devices and configure a proxy username and
password. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
28424 408 Request timeout. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
28426 410 Gone. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
28429 413 Request entity too large. Error type: NON_RETRYABLE.
