Property
The size of the temporary virtual disk which holds the modifications made on
the PiT. This field shows you how much capacity from the storage pool is used
by the PiT.
Capacity
A free text display field. To modify the text that appears here, right-click the
PiT and select Manage > Edit Comment. You can use this field for any purpose.
Comment
Indicates if the PiT is an asynchronous mirror PiT created by the user. For in-

displayed:
• Properties—Displays the PiT properties described in

• Source Virtual Disk/Snapshot/VDG—Displays the virtual disk, snapshot, or VDG on which
the PiT was created.
• Temporary Virtual Disk—Displays the temporary virtual disk created to hold modifications to
the source virtual disk/snapshot/VDG after the PiT was created.
• Dependent Snapshots—Displays snapshots created on the PiT.
• Security—Displays the access permissions of users and user groups for the selected PiT.
• Hierarchy—Displays the hierarchy of all snapshot PiTs and snapshots dependent on the PiT.
• Disabled Operations—Shows which operations you cannot currently perform on the PiT and
the reason for each. See the release notes for a current list of disabled operations.
Deleting PiTs
When a PiT is deleted, the data modifications that it holds are synchronized into whichever virtual
disk tree component would have received the modifications if the PiT had not been created. This may
be the storage element on which the PiT was created (such as a virtual disk) or an earlier PiT created
on the same storage element. The status of the PiT changes to resync until the synchronization process
is complete. The percentage of the synchronization progress is displayed in the Synchronization Level
field in the PiT tab for the virtual disk or snapshot on which the PiT was created. When the
synchronization level reaches 100%, the PiT disappears.
The resynchronization is performed by the fabric agent on the active DPM for the virtual disk. All PiTs
and snapshots on one virtual disk presented by DPM must be managed by the active DPM for the
virtual disk. In case of failover, all such elements move to the other DPM.
After the resynchronization process is complete, the temporary virtual disk that was allocated for
holding the data updates is deleted. The storage capacity that was used by the temporary virtual disk
returns to the storage pool for further use. PiT deletion is enabled only if no snapshot is using the PiT,
and if the PiT was created using snapshot. (Other VSM services, such as snapclone, migration, and
mirror services, can create PiTs and delete them according to service needs.)
WARNING!
It is impossible to delete a Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) PiT within VSM when the VSS snapshot
