NOTE:
For configurations where the same storage system is connected from hosts at different
sites, the same volume might have different device numbers. Therefore, you cannot create a disk
configuration definition file on a site to transfer to the other sites for use. For this reason, perform
a local scan for P-VOLs and S-VOLs at each site, and then create a disk configuration definition
file.
Acquiring volume information (preparations)
To acquire device configuration information about the volumes on the storage systems, perform
the following scans:
•
Local scan
•
NG Scan on a local or remote site
•
Remote scan
Performing a local scan to acquire volume information
Perform a local scan at the primary site to acquire information about a storage system and
automatically create a disk configuration definition file. Perform the local scan from the ISPF panel.
To acquire storage system information at the secondary site, perform a local scan at that site (using
the same file prefix you used for the local scan at the primary site), transfer the resulting disk
configuration definition file to the primary site and store the information in the disk configuration
definition file on the primary site.
For background information about the file prefix, see
“Setting a prefix for configuration files”
.
To see the procedures for initiating these operations from the ISPF panels, see
.
NOTE:
When performing a scan, Business Continuity Manager automatically determines the
model of the storage system and returns the information.
Performing an NG Scan (on a Non-Gen'ed Volume) to acquire device configuration
information
Perform an NG scan from the ISPF panel to acquire device configuration information about Non
Gen'ed volumes.
For information about how to perform an NG scan from the ISPF panel, see
.
Performing a remote scan to acquire remote storage system information
Acquire remote storage system information by specifying a route list ID and performing a remote
scan. When the scan completes, assign a dummy device number.
Prerequisite conditions for performing a Remote Scan
Before performing a Remote Scan, make sure the following conditions are satisfied:
•
A logical path (inter-control unit or inter-disk controller logical path) is established.
To confirm this, in the Path Set Status panel, which is displayed from the Manage Path Set
panel (from the Main Menu panel, choose 5 Manage Path Set), check whether a logical path
has been established.
