Chapter 8. QUICK START GUIDE

8.1

Introduction

To use this chapter, you must be familiar with the configuration and operation of both the CDM-IP
modem and the CDD-564A/L demodulator.

Use this chapter to quickly configure a pair of Comtech EF Data IP-compatible modems using a
CDD-564A/L as the demodulator. Hereafter, these modems are called the CDM-IP modems.

Follow this Quick Start Guide, begin with the factory default settings, and you can cause the system to
pass traffic within minutes.

8.2

Equipment List

• CDM-IP modems, quantity 2

• CDD-564A/L Demodulator, quantity 1

o

Depending on the modems used, you might need to provide equipment to convert 70

MHz IF to L-Band for a duplex connection.

• 10/100 BaseT Ethernet Hub, quantity 2

o

User provided

o

Only 10BaseT operation is supported in Managed Switch Mode (formerly easyConnect

Mode).

o

RJ-45 crossover Ethernet cables can be substituted to connect PC to CDM-IP modem

directly, without using a hub.

• PC with network interface card and terminal emulation program, quantity 2

o

Examples are: PuTTY, Tera Term, etc.
