Troubleshooting the IP Module
This section tells how to use some of the diagostic tools that come with the CDM-IP & CDD-564A/L.
These tools can help you identify the traffic path going in and out of the modems. Described here are
problems that can occur when two CDM-IP modems are set up initially. If these troubleshooting steps do
not correct the problem, contact Product Support.
8.8.1 Router Mode Troubleshooting
If the system cannot send traffic in Router Mode, use these troubleshooting steps:
8.8.1.1
No ping response from the locally connected PC to the CDM-
IP/CDD-564A/L Ethernet port.
ICMP response is: Request timed out.
1. Verify correct IP address/subnet on PC and CDM-IP/CDD-564A/L.
2. Verify Ethernet connection – cables, hub, etc.
3. Examine the PC, hub, and CDM-IP/CDD-564A/L, the Ethernet activity LED should be lit.
4. Make sure the PC is connected to the CDM-IP using a hub, switch or a RJ45 crossover cable.
5. When the CDM-IP/CDD-564A/L Ethernet port senses an Ethernet connection, the CLI displays:
Ethernet Interface UP
6. If the connection is broken, the CLI displays:
Ethernet Interface DOWN
8.8.1.2
No Ping response from PC 1 to PC 2 or vice versa
ICMP response is: Reply from 172.XXX.10.1 -Destination net unreachable
1. Make sure the PC is connected to the CDM-IP using a hub, switch or a RJ45 crossover cable.
2. When the CDM-IP/CDD-564A/L Ethernet port senses an Ethernet connection, the CLI displays:
Ethernet Interface UP
3. If the connection is broken, the CLI displays:
Ethernet Interface DOWN
4. Verify CDM-IP, CDD-564A/L Route Tables are correct.
5. Verify that the hdrcomp and decomp are either both enabled or both disabled:
a. Go to the Route Table, then Options page to find whether hdrcomp is enabled or disabled.
b. On the remote modem, go the Main menu, type A for Administration, then F for Feature.
c. Make sure decomp is in the same operational state as hdrcomp.
