3.3.4 ODM/R-840 Cabling
Signal attenuation and possible loss of signal can occur in the presence of
moisture. Therefore, cable connectors used in outdoor applications must be
sealed to avoid leakage – this applies particularly for Type ‘N’ and ‘BNC’
connectors, where moisture can seep into both the junctions at the plug end of
the connector (between the fixed and movable parts), and where the cable
connects to the connector. All cable junctions, including military style (MS)
connectors, must be sealed with a tape such as 3M Type 23 Scotch Self-
Amalgamating Tape or its equivalent.
Typical for all applications, note the following:
1. Cable lengths are determined by the user’s site installation and, as such, all service cables
must be fabricated by the user.
2. Care must be exercised in cable installation. Install the cables using the most direct route,
avoiding all sharp bends.
3. Secure all routed cables with clamps and ties.
Cabling Kits KT‐0000263 and KT‐0020566 are provided for the power and Ethernet connections
for the ODM‐840. Cables Kit KT‐0020567 is provided for the power and Ethernet connections for
the ODMR‐840.
