MANAGEMENT
6.1
Introduction
1. To proceed with Serial‐based Remote Product Management, assumptions are made that:
• The ODM/R‐840 is operating with the proper version firmware files.
• The ODM/R‐840 is connected to a user‐supplied, Windows‐based PC, and:
o
The PC serial port is connected to the ODM/R‐840 ‘CONSOLE/REDUNDANCY’ port using a user‐supplied 19‐pin
to 9‐pin serial cable.
o
The PC Ethernet port is connected to the ODM/R‐840 ‘ETHERNET T/M’ port with the available outdoor Ethernet
cable, either directly or with a user‐supplied hub or switch.
o
The PC is running a terminal emulation program (for operation of the ODM‐840 Serial Command Line Interface)
and a compatible Web browser (for operation of the ODM ‐840 Web Server Interface).
• The ODM/R‐840 Management IP Address has been noted using the ODM‐840 Serial Command Line Interface (CLI).
2. USE OF THE SERIAL‐BASED REMOTE PRODUCT MANAGEMENT INTERFACE IS RECOMMENDED ONLY FOR ADVANCED
USERS. ALL OTHER USERS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO USE THE ODM‐840 WEB SERVER INTERFACE FOR MONITOR
AND CONTROL (M&C) OF THE ODM/R‐840. SEE CHAPTER 5. ETHERNET‐BASED REMOTE PRODUCT MANAGEMENT.
