2.7.3 Precolumn glass cartridges with cartridge holder
The precolumn glass cartridge METROSEP Anion Dual 1 (6.1006.030)
is inserted in the 6.2828.010 Precolumn cartridge holder as follows (see
Fig. 12):
1 Insert cartridge
• Remove end fittings 64 64 64 64 from screw caps 65 65 65 65.
• Insert precolumn cartridge 67 67 67 67 in sleeve 66 66 66 66 (mark flow direc-
tion of the column cartridge on sleeve, the column cartridge
should always be operated in the same flow direction).
• Screw both screw caps 65 65 65 65 loosely to sleeve 66 66 66 66 by hand.
• Screw both end fittings 64 64 64 64 into screw caps 65 65 65 65 so that their
capillary ends are seated in the PTFE seals of the cartridge.
• Tighten both screw caps 65 65 65 65 by hand.
• Tighten both end fittings 64 64 64 64 firmly using a screwdriver.
2 Connect precolumn
• Provide the column connection capillary 20 20 20 20 mounted on the
injection valve with a PEEK compression fitting 46 46 46 46 (see sec-
tion 2.3.4) and screw it tightly onto end fitting 64 64 64 64 on the inlet
side of the precolumn.
• Cut off as short a piece as possible from PEEK capillary 48 48 48 48
and fit this with two PEEK compression fittings 46 46 46 46 (see sec-
tion 2.3.4).
• Screw prepared capillary 48 48 48 48 to end fitting 64 64 64 64 on the other end
of the precolumn.
3 Rinse precolumn
• Place a beaker beneath the outlet capillary of the precolumn.
• Open software window for manual system control.
• If necessary, modify
Flow rate to the value suited for the
inserted separating column and click on to
send this value to the 790 Personal IC.
• Switch on high-pressure pump ( IC pump ) by clicking and
rinse precolumn with eluent for ca. 10 min.
• Switch off high-pressure pump by clicking .
The rinsed precolumn can be connected directly to the separating
column instead of by means of a PEEK capillary. Proceed as follows:
• Screw off PEEK capillary from end fitting 64
64 64 64 of the precolumn.
• Screw off end fitting 64 64 64 64 from screw cap 65 65 65 65 of the precolumn.
• Screw connection piece 68 68 68 68 onto screw cap 65 65 65 65.
• Screw screw cap 69 69 69 69 of separating column 63 63 63 63 onto connection
piece 68 68 68 68.
