Chapter 4: Linear Timecode (LTC)

The Genlock signal is fed to both the master and slave from the external Composite black and burst video sync
generator. See chapter 5 for further details.

Note that timecode and genlock can also be provided by external show control equipment. In this case the master
player becomes a slave to the show control equipment.

Ensure that the remote control communication method for the system is correctly connected and functioning.

Synchronized playback using show control

This section explains the commands used to control a synchronized multi-player system. The messages sent to
each player are the same, whether RS232 or TCP/IP is used for the physical connection.

Please refer to chapter 12 of this manual for full details about the command structure and more information about
configuring the HD Players.

Command Descriptions

Playrange < end chapter>

Sets the start and end chapters for a Playlist on the specified channel. This command will also pre-load the start
chapter in preparation for a play command.

The Playrange command requires an amount of time to complete (up to 6 seconds depending on the file format
and bit rate), because of some initialization that must occur when a new file is selected. If the HD Player is used in
a simple application where a single file is repeatedly played (in a theater for example) it is more efficient to use
the “loop” command (see Loopon below).

When the Playrange command is complete the HD Player will return the following:

Channel x Cued (where x is the base channel set in the channel properties).

Fastseek < end chapter>

The fastseek command is a possible alternative to playrange, which can be used in some situations where all the
content in the playlist is of the same format (resolution, frame rate, bitrate and with matching PIDs). By assuming
the content format is identical, the HDPlayer software is able to bypass a lot of initialization and checking, thereby
making the cueing process much faster. However, reliable playback becomes critically dependent on accurate
content preparation and encoding and tight control. Specifically, the playrange command must be used the first
time a file is cued and if the player reaches the end of the playlist a new playrange command must be issued
before fastseek becomes active again.

Tcgenerate hh:mm:ss:ff
Turns the timecode generator on and sends the timecode hh:mm:ss:ff out as a jam sync.

Tcreceive
Sets the player into timecode receive mode.

Tcreceiveloop
Sets the player into timecode receive mode, and loop the incoming timecode to the timecode output.

Tcplayat hh:mm:ss:ff
Sets the timecode playat time
