Darning
Torn
and
worn-out
clothes
and
curtains
may
be
easily
and
quickly
darned
with
a
bit
of
practice.
If
you
need
more
sewing
control,
you
may
use
a
frame
(no
supplied),
as
shown
in
the
illustration.
PREPARATION
Pattern: Straight stitch
Needle position: Center
Needle thread tension: Between 2 and 5
Note: Ifthe darned area is open, such as a hole, baste a patch of
cloth underthe hole before darningthe area.

Remove
the
presser
foot
(see
page
24),
place
the
work
area
underthe needle and lowerthe pressure bar.

To
start
darning,
make
uniform
movements
to
the
front
and
to
the
back,
over
the
area
to
be
darned.
Note
that
in
this
case,
the
stitch
length
shall
be
that
of
the
extension
of
your
movements.
Smoother
movement
will
produce
close
stitches.
3.
Continue
darning
until
all
surface
is
covered
with
parallel
lines.
