Steering shaft, bushings and dampener removal

To remove the steering shaft:

1

Remove the floor pan by following the steps
described in Chapter 4: Body/Chassis.

2.

Remove the four screws that hold the steering col-
umn cover in place using a T-30 torx driver.

3.

Remove the steering wheel using a 1/2” wrench.

4.

Loosen the top clamp bolt in the steering shaft cou-
pler using a pair of 1/2” wrenches.

5.

Remove the bottom bolt in the steering shaft coupler.
See Figure 6.9.

NOTE: Do not lock the steering gearbox at this time.

6.

Remove the six screws that hold the steering column
to the frame using a 1/2” wrench. See Figure 6.97.

7.

Lift the steering column assembly off of the mower.

8.

Remove the steering shaft from the bottom of the
steering column.

9.

Remove the upper steering shaft bushing.
See Figure 6.98.
