Air filter

A dirty air filter can reduce engine power, increase fuel
consumption and make starting more difficult. The air filter
should be cleaned every 100 hours and replaced every
200 hours of use.

To check the air filter:

1. Swing open the air filter cover located at the back of

the engine. See Figure 9.3.

Loosen the hose clamp on air filter using a 5/16”
wrench. See Figure 9.4.

Remove the air filter.

The air filter can be cleaned by lightly tapping it on a
hard surface.

NOTE: Never blow compressed air through a paper air fil-

ter. The force of the air moving through the air filter
will remove the tiny paper particles that trap the
microscopic particles of dirt from the air.

NOTE: The paper element should be white in color. If the

dirt does not come out of the filter with gentle tap-
ping, replace the filter.

5.

Install the filter by following the previous steps in
reverse order.
