Belt tension

The belt tension for the PTO belt for the 60” deck and
the deck belt for the 48” deck is about a 1/2” deflection of
the belt with ten pounds of force applied to the belt.

To check the belt tension:

1. Locate the longest straight section of the belt. It

should be the section from the PTO pulley to the
deck. See Figure 8.9.

Apply ten pounds of force to the middle of the belt
span. See Figure 8.10.

NOTE: A belt tension checker will make it easier to mea-

sure the amount of force being applied.

Measure the amount the belt deflects.

To adjust the belt tension:

• Tighten the jam nuts on the deck hanger U-rod to

increase the belt tension.

• Loosen the jam nuts on the deck hanger U-rod to

decrease the belt tension.
