The modem is shown with the correct fitting for
purge systems. The connections ends are shown,
with protective covers in place. The covers must be
removed to attach the cables.

The cable is plugged into the converter, and the
bayonet bezel is turned to lock in place.

Note that this fiber is plugged in to the port
marked “TX.” The other is marked “RX.” These
must be configured properly. See below.

The “UTP” RJ-45 cable entrance on the right side is
configured inside the XDS Process Analytics
Instrument, during factory set-up.

Modem connections and settings are as follows:

(Cable color refers to the color of the molded strain relief, not the actu- al cable.)

Modem Location

Modem Inside Process Instrument Modem External to Instrument

“Black” Fiber Cable

To “TX” (left port)

To “RX” (right port)

“Red” Fiber Cable

To “RX” (right port)

To “TX” (left port)

Button Position

Button out: “X” position

Button in: “I” position

The above settings apply as long as the PC connection to the external model is “Direct Connect” and
uses the UTP Crossover cable supplied in the Process Analytics Accessory Kit. If a “Patch Cable” is
used instead of the UTP-crossover cable, the button on the external modem should be in the “x”
position, which is out.

There are three basic conditions for instrument addressing:

Direct Connection, DHCP addressing (Dynamically-assigned instrument IP address)

Network Connection, DHCP addressing (Dynamically-assigned instrument IP address)

Network Connection, Fixed IP addressing (Fixed instrument IP address)

A separate manual has been prepared, which describes the specifics of Direct Connection and
Network Connection. Because operating platforms have different network addressing options and
requirements, this separate manual is provided as a reference document, and is the best place to
determine which setup is optimal in a given situation.
