Problems using EtherTalk

This section explains what to do when a problem occurs while using EtherTalk. The
possible causes, confirmation methods, and actions are as follows. If a problem still
exists after the corrective action has been performed, follow the Problem Solving
Procedures on page 143

The name (or the default
name) of the machine has
been changed.

Check that the machine
name has been changed in
Chooser.

Change the name of the
machine or the other printer
to avoid the same name on
the network.

The machine does not
display in Chooser.

Use a network management
software to check that the
type of the NBP entity name
for the machine has been
changed from LaserWriter.

If the type of NBP entity
name for the machine has
been changed from
LaserWriter, the machine
cannot be selected in
Chooser. If the machine must
be selected, open the
machine using Apple Share
Print Server or Windows
Server.

Use a network management
software to check that the
machine exists on the
network.
Check that the network is
connected correctly.

If the machine cannot be
found on the network, the
machine may be off or the
network cable may be faulty.
If the machine is on or the
network cable is not faulty,
contact the Xerox Welcome
Center.

Unable to obtain the required
print results.

Check that the print language
between the machine and the
print driver are consistent.

Select the print language
correctly.
If the print language of the
machine is in the dump
mode, the data sent from the
Macintosh will be printed in
hexadecimal notations.

Check the installation
procedure for the print driver.
Check the print driver which
came with the machine
displays in Chooser.

Install the print driver
correctly.
If a print driver of a third party
is used, you may have
unexpected results.
If garbled characters are still
printed, contact the Xerox
Welcome Center.
