Glossary
administration disk
The disk located on the image server on which HP Insight CMU is installed. A dedicated space
can be allocated to the cloned images.
administration
network
The private network within the system that is used for administrative operations.
clone image
The compressed image of the installation from the master disk. One clone image is needed for
each logical group.
cluster
A set of independent computers combined into a unified system through system software and
networking technologies.
compute node
A node that is assigned only with the compute role and no other. Jobs are distributed to and run
on nodes with the compute role. No other services run on a compute node.
EBIPA
Enclosure Bay IP Addressing
GUI client
workstation
The HP Insight CMU GUI is accessed from any client workstation that can reach the HP Insight
CMU management node through the network. Several users on different workstations can use
the HP Insight CMU GUI simultaneously. The GUI client workstation can run Linux or Windows.
HA
High Availability
HP Insight CMU
management
cluster
A cluster of two or more nodes (generally two) providing redundancy for HP Insight CMU
management functions.
iLO
Integrated Lights Out. A self-contained hardware technology that enables remote management
of any node within a system.
image server
A node specifically designated to hold images that will be distributed to the nodes dedicated as
secondary servers in each network entity. In a standard HP Insight CMU installation, the
management node acts as the image server.
logical group
A group of similar machines running the same image. A node can belong to several logical
groups.
management card
A hardware device on a server that enhances remote manageability. The management cards
supported by HP Insight CMU are iLO and LO100i.
management
network
Typically, a private, Ethernet-based LAN that connects all the nodes in a cluster. HP Insight CMU
communicates with the compute nodes and terminal servers over the management network.
management node
The node on which HP Insight CMU is installed on and run. Typically, the management node is
also the image server.
master disk
A reference disk where the operating system and layered products are manually installed. Its
contents are duplicated on the other nodes of a group.
network entity
A group of machines that are connected to an Ethernet switch. Typically, this could be a
stand-alone rack or a stand-alone enclosure. In each network entity, one of the nodes is temporarily
dedicated as the secondary server, which means that it has the same role as the image server.
Each node belongs to a unique network entity.
OA
Onboard Administrator. The enclosure management hardware, software, and firmware that is
used to support all managed devices contained within the enclosure.
pdcp
Parallel Distributed Copy
pdsh
Parallel Distributed Shell
PXE
Preboot Execution Environment. A standard client/server interface that enables uninstalled network
computers with an operating system to be configured and booted remotely. PXE booting is
configured at the BIOS level.
RPM
Red Hat Package Manager.
1.
A utility that is used for software package management on Linux operating systems, most
notably to install and remove software packages.
