Issue a request for creating a Continuous Access XP Journal pair to the Continuous Access XP Journal
primary disk array.
When creating a Continuous Access XP Journal pair, ensure that you select a value from 1 to 3 as the
mirror ID.

Wait until the status of the Continuous Access XP Journal pair becomes PAIR.
NOTE:
Ensure that the Continuous Access XP (synchronous) pair status changes to PAIR before the
Continuous Access XP Journal pair status changes to PAIR. If you made a request to a change the
Continuous Access XP Journal pair status to PAIR before the Continuous Access XP (synchronous)
pair status changes to PAIR, the request is rejected.

Disaster recovery
If a disaster or failure occurs in the primary site in a 3DC cascading configuration, you can use Continuous
Access XP (synchronous) secondary volumes in the intermediate site to enable the intermediate site to take
over your business tasks. If a disaster or failure occurs in the primary site, you must first transfer your
business tasks from the primary site to the intermediate site.
To transfer your business tasks to the secondary site:
1.
Check the consistency of the Continuous Access XP (synchronous) S-VOL in the intermediate site.
2.
Use RAID Manager to execute the
horctakeover
command on the Continuous Access XP
(synchronous) pair that exists between the primary and intermediate sites.
3.
Wait until the Continuous Access XP (synchronous) S-VOL in the intermediate site becomes suspended
(in SSWS status) or changes to a Continuous Access XP (synchronous) P-VOL.
After the S-VOL is suspended or changes to a P-VOL, you can use the volume to resume your business
tasks.

When a disaster or failure occurs, this procedure enables you to resume your business tasks using the
Continuous Access XP (synchronous) volume at the intermediate site. The Continuous Access XP
(synchronous) volume at the intermediate site contains the same data that is stored in the Continuous
Access XP (synchronous) P-VOL at the primary site.

Combining Continuous Access XP Journal with Continuous Access XP Synchronous (3DC
multi-target configuration)
The XP10000/XP12000 can combine Continuous Access XP Journal and Continuous Access XP
Synchronous. In a system where Continuous Access XP Journal and Continuous Access XP Synchronous are
combined, there are one primary and two secondary sites. One secondary site is for synchronous remote
copy, and is usually located a short distance from the primary site. The other secondary site is for
asynchronous remote copy, and is usually located a long distance from the primary site. This system
configuration is called a three data center (3DC) multi-target configuration.
A 3DC multi-target configuration provides a solution for disaster recovery and business continuity. Even
when a disaster or failure occurs at two sites at the same time, you can restart business tasks using data in
the remaining secondary site.
