C HECKING AND A DJUSTING R ETRACT C HAINS
Check
Position the handler in a safe, level, open area well away from personnel and
equipment. Apply the park broke, shift the forward/reverse lever to “Neutral”
and turn the rear wheels straight forward.
Level the boom, stop the engine and chock the wheels.
Measure the distance between boom-section 2 and boom-section 3 to determine
adjustment required. The correct dimension is

Adjustment #1
Loosen both extend chain adjusting nuts (at boom-section 1 anchor) sufficient to
allow realignment.
Loosen retract chain jam nut (located inside boom at bottom front of
boom-section 1).
Tighten the retract chain, adjusting the nut to obtain the 1/2" dimension required.
Torque the jam nut to 100 ft-lb. Do not use LOCTITE
®
on the nuts.
Measure the distance between boom-section 3 and the outer face of the boom
head on boom-section 4 to determine the amount of adjustment required. The
correct dimension is 17".

Adjustment
Loosen the adjusting nut at the top front of boom-section 2 for enough to
permit adjustment.
Loosen the retract chain jam nut at the bottom front of boom-section 2.
Tighten the retract chain adjusting nut to obtain the 17" dimension.
Torque the jam nut to 100 ft-lb. Do not use LOCTITE on the nuts.
Readjust the extend chains as described on page 4.2.
