Selecting the Metering Mode

Spot metering
Effective when metering a specific part of the
subject or scene. Spot metering covers approx.
1.5% of the viewfinder area at the center. The spot
metering circle will be displayed in the viewfinder.

Center-weighted average metering
The metering is averaged for the entire scene with
the viewfinder center weighted more heavily.
With <

> (Evaluative metering), the exposure setting will be locked
when you press the shutter button halfway and focus is achieved (in
One-Shot AF mode). In the <
w
> (Partial metering), <
r
> (Spot
metering), and <
e
> (Center-weighted average metering) modes, the
exposure is set at the moment the picture is taken. (Pressing the shutter
button halfway does not lock the exposure.)
You can set the camera so that <

> is displayed in the viewfinder when

> (Spot metering) is set (p.438).
