Custom White Balance

Photograph a solid-white object.
Look through the viewfinder and aim
the entire dotted line box (shown in
the illustration) over a plain, white
object.
Focus manually and shoot with the
standard exposure set for the white
object.
You can use any white balance
setting.

The Custom WB data will be
registered to the camera.
To use the Custom white balance,
see “Selecting and Shooting with the
Registered Custom WB Data”
(p.183).
If the exposure obtained in step 4 differs greatly from the standard
exposure, a correct white balance may not be obtained.
Custom WB data can also be registered as follows:
1. Press the <
B
> button and turn the <

> dial to select <
O

2. Then turn the <

> dial to select the number under which the
Custom WB is to be registered.
3. Press the <
J
> button.

The number selected in step 2 will blink on the top LCD panel.
4. Follow step 4 above to photograph a solid-white object.

The Custom WB data will be registered under the selected
number.

The image captured in step 4 will not be recorded to the card.
Instead of a white object, shooting a gray chart or 18% gray reflector
(commercially-available) can produce a more accurate white balance.
