4-5-1 Muting devices

(1) Requirements for muting devices

The sensors, switches, and other equipment used as muting devices are subject to the requirements
such as the following. Muting devices must satisfy these requirements at least when enabling the
muting function.
• Muting device must have NO (normal open) contact output, PNP or NPN output.
• No single device with two or more outputs shall be used instead of two or more muting device.

Muting device must not be set to make use of multiple output functions. (Only 1 output can be used
per device; output sources must be separated.)

• Muting devices must not be set to make use of ON/OFF delay functions, or any other functions that

modify output timing or pattern.

• Must satisfy SL-R12EX input specifications. See “1-2 Specifications” (

➮1-3).

DANGER

• The above requirements of muting devices are a partial and representative

example of applicable requirements, not completely all requirements. Therefore,
be sure to confirm the special safety-related requirements such as national or
regional laws, rules, regulations, standards, and ordinances prior to use, installa-
tion or orientation of muting devices. For more information, contact the organiza-
tion that has jurisdiction over national or regional occupational health and safety.
The proper selection, usage, installation and orientation of the muting devices
are the responsibility of the employer and installer.

• A simple cam-operated limit switch wired in parallel with the device’s output is

inadequate, as its failure can remain undetected. (ANSI B11.19)

(2) The muting device input indicator

The muting device input indicator lights when the SL-R12EX detects the input from the muting device.

(3) The wiring of 2 muting devices

Wiring for the muting devices can be made only while the power to the SL-R12EX is OFF.
The following requirements must be met when making wiring connections to the SL-R12EX terminal
block.
Tightening torque: 0.4 N•m
Wire rating: AWG # 28 to 14 (Stranded only, Copper only, min. 60° C)
Cable stripping dimension:
