4-4-2 Installing the blanking blind protection (BBP) unit and the SL-C Series

Install the BBP unit and SL-C Series properly, aligning them with the obstacle on the target machine. The
following table and diagram provide the information required to properly install the BBP unit. This information
is also provided to help you determine whether your particular BBP unit installation will result in a new
hazardous zone allowing human approach. Be sure to properly install, if necessary, any additional safety
protective equipment as well as the BBP unit according to the following table and diagram.

WARNING

If the longitudinal length of the BBP unit is longer than
the height of the target machine's obstacle, a new
hazardous zone allowing human approach (a zone
where the SL-C Series can not detect the defined
detection capability.) is created when the following
conditions are met. Be sure to install the additional
safety protective equipment, such as a safe guard, for
this zone. Failure to follow this warning may result in
significant harm to machine operators, including
serious injury or death.

• When “Z” is more than “Z'”, a hazardous zone

allowing human approach where the SL-C Series
cannot detect the detection capability is created
between the BBP unit's transmitter and receiver.

• When (Z+H)' is more than (Z+H), a hazardous zone allowing human approach

where the SL-C Series cannot detect the detection capability is created between
the BBP unit's transmitter and receiver.
